Edirol, Garritan, East West, Vienna, the last two being pretty expensive but mid to high-end. for soundfonts look up "squidfont" and "cadenza" "roland orchestral". even if you dont get great sounds now is the time to work on your compositional skills, so once you actually get good sounds your music will sound good in both aspects.

East/West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra is probably the most professional. It's really expensive, but it's surely worth the money. Edirol Orchestra is cheaper, and you can also try Garritan Personal Orchestra. Also, for a free staccato strings, google "Monster Staccatos". They're really good and they're free, but make sure you have Kontakt if you want to use them.

Most people will say Edirol Orchestral. I'd suggest looking for some soundfonts if your not up buying anything expensive. If you have a shit load of money I suggest East West Symphonic Orchestra or something like that. Sorry if I am not much of a help.
